Please don't be confused by the title. Not that I have anything against jazz music, but I doubt that I'll ever write about it here. If you feel that you can no longer read this blog because of that, well, that's your choice.
Anyway, as the part of the title that makes sense implies, Christmas has come and gone, as has New Year's Eve. Ahh, 2010, it feels like only a few days ago that it was 2009. Moving right along, I've reaped some spoils from this yearly bout of shopping, mainly a camcorder, a couple video games, and an awesome Nerf gun. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the socks, pajamas, etc., but I think those are almost standard gifts. If you don't get socks on Christmas, either you don't need them, or they were forgotten (as time goes on, generally the latter).
Just to do a recap on current events, after a mildly rushed Christmas morning, we (as in my family) flew out to beautiful -30 degrees Celsius Manitoba to visit relatives. After visiting everyone at least once, but sometimes twice, we stopped at my aunt and uncle's house to get one day of relative rest and relaxation before the wild party that is New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, not much partying was done. Believe me, I wouldn't have minded staying up until around 4 in the morning, at least if I didn't have to get up at 6 am to get on another plane.
As it was, however, we got on the plane in Winnipeg, flew to Toronto, waited an hour, and then flew to London. With all the travelling to airports, from airports, and between airports, not to mention eating, we ended up getting home at about 6:30. That's over twelve hours later. Great start to the new decade, huh?
That being said, 2010 does look like it's going to be fantastic. Media-wise, we've great movies like Avatar and Sherlock Holmes already out (word is I'm going to see Avatar soon; I'll get a review up ASAP), and many more awesome movies on the way, plus, there are tons of games on the way for all consoles. More specific to me, the economy seems to have bounced back substantially, and I'm looking at doing some investing. How, what, and when are all questions I'm still asking myself. To top it off, I'm thinking about getting a job in the summer.
In other blog-related news, the gift of a camcorder has led me yet again to the idea of video posting. I think I'll at least give it a try, but first I have to get used to all the camcorder's settings, judge the video quality, and figure out a way to film a video of myself (tripod? cameraman? ....quantum physics?). If I get videos out and put them on YouTube with links, that should provide some more readers (plus, there's gonna be a link on the family website). If I get enough people reading, I may be able to put in a couple small ads and make some money, maybe enough to start some contests or something. That's just specualtion, though, so we'll have to see what 2010, and the rest of the decade, holds.
Best of luck in the new year!
